2010 iThinkOklahoma Panelists Look for Honesty, Integrity in Elected OfficialsHonesty and integrity are the qualities Oklahomans are looking for most in their elected officials. In the latest opinion survey, iThinkOklahoma panelists cited “conservative” as the third quality they would like to see in their political candidates, indicative of Oklahoma’s position as a red state. Panelists see fiscal issues as the most important election year concerns, with government spending leading the way and taxes closely following. The economy was rated the number one overall most important issue.
Respondents are very familiar with the Tea Party movement (83%) and believe it will have an impact on the 2010 election (68%). More than half of the panelists believe Sarah Palin (58%) is the best representative of the movement, followed by Mike Huckabee (26%). Looking ahead to the
Oklahoman’s turnpikes proved to be a split decision for panelists, with 46% believing them to be in better condition than other major highways and 40% saying there is no difference between the toll roads and other highways. Half of the respondents (51%) believed that turnpike tolls are too high, while just under half (48%) said they tolls were just about right.
The Oklahoma Medical Examiner’s office is not viewed favorably by panelists, with almost two-thirds (65%) having a negative view. Of those with a negative opinion, nearly 8 in 10 (78%) believe there is corruption in the Medical Examiner’s office.
